Day 24

In class today we met in the ExerGame room where Professor Yang had the iDance set up for us to start to use and practice on. It was a lot of fun, it was very cool how some people can be doing it on one level and another group of people could be doing it on a different level. This is called challenge by choice. We then started to use this game that involved punching a kicking a punching bag with sensors in it. All of these games it got the students moving and had their heart rates rising fast.

For Lab D Stephanie and I are going to have to go to the ExerGame room to practice the iDance and also make a video on how to set it all up. By making the video I feel like I will have a better understand of how it works and it will greatly improve my performance on my Lab D.

Day 23

In class today we met in the classroom where we talked about the many different teaching styles and how we will be using them in our Lab D's. We also went over Content Development and the SOFIT sheets that we are going to be using in our Lab D's as well. The day for my lab was changed from April 6th to April 20th because we don't know when the equipment for the iDance will be arriving. The teaching style that I will be using in my lab is going to be Command and I will be focusing on how exercise can extend life.

On Friday we will be meeting in the classroom again and talking more about the SOFIT sheets and discuss when the Lab D packets are due and when to do the 40 task progressions. I am looking forward to the iDance equipment to arrive so that I can learn how it all works so that I can get a better understand of what it is exactly that I am going to be teaching.

Day 22

In class on Friday we started off in the gym where we played ultimate frisbee. I pulled my hamstring the week before so I participated as much as I could. Even though I couldn't go all out I still worked up a sweat! Our entire class gets to into playing against each other, it really is a good way to get the class warmed up and ready to learn.

After ultimate frisbee we went to the classroom where we discussed more in depth our Lab D's and how and when they will take place.

Day 21

For class today we met in the classroom and talked more about our Lab D's and what was expected of us for them. Stephanie and I have been assigned iDance which is supposed to be a lot like DDR. You can find out a lot of information from this link Info on iDance. It looks very interesting and I am excited to learn about it and teach it.

To end the class we went into the Exergame Lab room where Professor Yang showed us the many different game that was in the room and some of the games that our peers will be teaching in their Lab D's as well. It was very cool to see the many games and how you can change simple video games into more active and healthy games such as the cars video game we saw, it was set up to a bike that when you pedal the car goes faster.

Day 20

We were finally back in class today after having spring break and then not having class for another week because of the conference. Last week I pulled my hamstring badly and wasn't to sure if I was going to be able to participate in the class that much but I stuck it out and played ultimate frisbee and had a blast. We started out just throwing the frisbee back and forth with a partner and then got into two teams which Sunnie divided the class by having all the light shirts go to one side and all the dark shirts go to the other.

After we played ultimate frisbee we went down to the classroom where we talked about our Lab D's and what we were going to be teaching and when we will be teaching. For my Lab D I got iDance which I am not to familiar with but I am excited to learn about it and teach it to my peers.

Hawaiian Adventure

For Lab 3 the theme was Hawaii so for our first game Jordan and I came up with an interesting game to incorporate the leap, the horizontal jump and the slide so that out peers would be able to assess the students on their locomotor skills.

Professor Yang was not at this lab but instead we had one of the graduate students help out and she did amazing in Professor Yang's absence. I feel as though we were a lot more prepared this time because we knew Joe wasn't going to be there because he broke his ankle a few days earlier so we had prepared in advance for him not being at the lab.

At the end we made up a game using bean bags and hula hoops which were color coordinated and times the kids the first time and then we challenged them to beat their previous time which they enjoyed. It is interesting to see how a simple game can turn fun by just adding in one simple challenge for them to accomplish. To end the class we had all the remaining kids bring it and and put their arms in the center and we did a St. Mary's cheer to end the day. Lab 3 was probably the smoothest lab so far and I am looking forward to the next one.
